Job Description

The Town of Cohasset Department of Public Works is seeking a dependable and safety-focused individual to serve as a laborer in the Tree and Park Division. Reporting to the Tree and Park Supervisor, this position performs manual work related to the maintenance of town greenspace, including parks, fields, town property, and the cemetery. The Seasonal laborer must be able to work independently, follow established safety procedures, and assist other areas of the Department as needed. Key Responsibilities Operate front-end loaders, backhoes, sweepers, catch basin equipment, gang mowers, air compressors, jackhammers, rock drills, and similar equipment. Assist with recycling, transfer station, landfill, and baling operations. Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and vehicles. Follow required safety procedures and report equipment concerns or maintenance needs. Perform manual labor related to public works construction, maintenance, and repair activities. Assist with grounds, highway, recycling, and other departmental operations as assigned. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and challenging environments. Provide support during emergency response operations when required. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Candidates must also possess:
A valid DOT medical card Experience safely operating heavy vehicles and specialized equipment. The ability to follow technical instructions and established safety procedures. The physical ability to perform manual labor and lift or handle materials associated with the position. Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. A valid Class D Driver's License. Schedule and Compensation This is a temporary, seasonal position in the Department of Public Works. The anticipated schedule is up to 40 hours per week, depending on departmental needs. Some weekend, holiday, emergency, or after-hours work may be required. The position will be compensated at PT-2, Step 4 ($18.89) Seasonal employees are not eligible for benefits.
