Job Description

Job Overview Seaside Resort & Spa is looking for a passionate and experienced Dog Trainer to join our team as we expand on training services. This position will focus primarily on individualized 1:1 training for dogs , working with each dog based on their temperament, behavior, and their owner's specific goals. We are looking for someone who has a strong understanding of canine behavior and enjoys creating positive, meaningful results through modern, reward-based training methods. Our weekend training program will be intentionally limited to a small number of dogs each day, allowing the trainer to provide focused individual attention while maintaining a calm and structured environment. Responsibilities Conduct individualized 1:1 training sessions with dogs Assess each dog's temperament, behavior, and training needs Develop customized training plans based on individual goals Work on obedience, manners, leash skills, recall, impulse control, and other foundational behaviors Use positive reinforcement and humane, effective training techniques Safely handle dogs of different breeds, sizes, ages, and temperaments Teach dogs to remain calm and focused around distractions Provide structured rest and enrichment between training sessions Communicate training progress and recommendations to pet owners Educate owners on techniques they can continue practicing at home Provide clear progress notes and take-home exercises Maintain a safe, clean, and organized training environment Recognize changes in canine body language and adjust training appropriately Work collaboratively with the Seaside team Qualifications Previous professional dog-training experience strongly preferred Strong understanding of canine behavior and body language Experience with obedience training and behavior modification Knowledge of positive reinforcement and reward-based training methods Comfortable working independently with dogs Confident handling a variety of breeds, sizes, and temperaments Excellent communication and customer-service skills Reliable, professional, and patient Has Dog-training certification, but strong hands-on experience is also valued Our weekend program will initially accommodate approximately 4-6 dogs per day . Additional weekday opportunities may be available for the right candidate as our training program develops.
