Under the general supervision of the Night Supervising Counselor at the California School for the Blind, Night Attendants are responsible for providing support and the safety and welfare to students under their direct care, which include but not limited to: visually checking sleeping students every 20 minutes to ensure their safety and well-being, student daily living skills, parent communication and safety drills. In addition to the below duties, Night Attendants are responsible for the accountability of students 100% of the time. You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement . Working Conditions Will work in a temperature controlled environment with LED lighting. Will be working in a dorm with male and female students. May sit at desk or use sit/stand desk during working hours to perform daily duties and work with students. May be required to lift and carry document boxes weighing up to 50 lbs. This position may be kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching overhead/above shoulder level, sitting. May be around blind or visually impaired students. May be required to escort student during fire drills or emergencies. This position is also on an open school campus and may be around service animals.
  • This position has a Pay Differential 257
  • Recruitment and Retention pay of 10% of the base salary. The pay differential is not included in the salary listed below.

  • Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025 ) was implemented.
PLP 2025
requires each eligible employee in Bargaining Unit 20, and related Excluded, Exempt, and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 hours of
PLP 2025
leave credits monthly through June 2027. Part-time employees shall be subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. The pay reduction is not included in the salary listed below.

The school serves as a statewide resource to provide expertise to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and families in evidenced-based assessment, specialized curriculum, cutting-edge research and technology, and innovative models of instruction that prepare students for adult life. The California School for the Blind is under the State Special Schools and Services Division. This position is located in Fremont, California.
