About Coalition of Immokalee Workers The Coalition of Immokalee Workers is a Presidential Medal-winning, worker-led human rights organization based in Immokalee, Florida. The CIW is internationally recognized for combating longstanding abuses in agriculture — including wage theft, dangerous working conditions, sexual violence, and forced labor. The organization's groundbreaking Fair Food Program, launched in 2010, has not only helped remedy egregious abuses in the fields but has also established a proven system for preventing those abuses altogether. Building on the success of the Fair Food Program, the CIW now works to replicate the Worker-driven Social Responsibility (WSR) model across industries including dairy, construction, plant nurseries, sugarcane, fishing, textiles, and more. Duties The CIW's national Campaign for Fair Food educates consumers on the issue of farm labor exploitation and forges alliances between farmworkers and consumers in an effort to enlist the market power of major corporate buyers to help end that exploitation. One of the most well-known and highly regarded consumer campaigns of its generation, the CIW's Campaign for Fair Food is known for its innovative, creative multi-day tours, marches, and other actions as well as an engaged base of allies. Through these efforts, the CIW and allies have brought 14 multinational corporations into the Fair Food Program, eliminating egregious human rights abuses from the supply chains of participating buyers. The Campaign Coordinator works with a dynamic multi-lingual team of farmworker leaders who direct the campaign, as well as a diverse base of consumers, faith leaders, community groups, and youth and students. Ideal candidates are highly responsible, work well in teams as part of a fast-paced environment, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. The position includes the opportunity of regular travel across the U.S. The CIW seeks a dedicated, mission-driven individual comfortable communicating in both Spanish and English (additional languages are a plus). Experience living or working in rural settings in the United States or internationally is strongly recommended. Flexibility in relating to people from diverse cultures, languages, and professional backgrounds is essential. Curiosity, creativity, nimble thinking, and a sense of humor are also highly valued. This position is based in Immokalee, Florida, the hometown of both the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and the Fair Food Program. Working in Immokalee means becoming part of a vibrant and resilient community that is helping transform agriculture and other low-wage industries worldwide. Applicants may also live/reside in the Ft. Myers or Naples area.
