TITLE:
Career Development/Career Awareness Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of a bachelor's degree and licensed as a CDC or School Counselor by the NC Dept. of Public Instruction or a bachelor's degree and a clear license in any area of CTE with the ability to obtain the CDC certification by the end of the 2026-2027 school year.
RELATED DEGREES
Any area of CTE or School Counseling.

JOB GOAL
To help students explore and learn skills that will contribute to their educational and social development in the area of Career and Technical Education.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate career development services for middle school students. Promote career awareness, exploration, and planning by continuously monitoring and evaluating career survey data, and help middle school students develop a career development plan as defined by local and state General Statutes. Provide career development, occupational, labor market, non-traditional career, and post-secondary information. Lead CTE Discovery Classes on Fridays at Mattamuskeet and Ocracoke. Keep the HCS CTE Facebook page up-to-date with CTE events and activities. Supports the implementation of the CTE plan. Participates in CTE Advisory Council Meetings Assists students in selecting appropriate academic and CTE courses. Coordinate career planning activities in classrooms, groups, or individual sessions. Provide and coordinate the administration and interpretation of career assessments. Provide information on postsecondary education programs and employment opportunities. Facilitate work-based learning opportunities, such as Citizen Hyde, job shadowing, and mini internships. Provide and coordinate activities that help students develop employability skills and micro-credentials by organizing and implementing the Amazing Shake. Promote the integration of career research and work-based learning opportunities into middle school academic courses. Promote the use of technology for career planning and research. Facilitate business, education, and community partnerships that provide opportunities for students and support CTE. Serve as a liaison with the business, industry, education, and military community. Publicize partnership resources. Participate in professional development activities at the local, regional, state, and national levels. Engage in professional growth opportunities to remain current with trends, demands, and emerging careers in a rapidly changing workforce. Coordinate with CDC, guidance, CTE teachers, and CTSO's to promote recruitment, enrollment, and placement activities for prospective and current students in CTE. Provide information about CTE opportunities to prospective and current CTE students and their parents. Assist with district-wide event planning. Treats all students fairly and equitably. Interacts effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and the community. Adheres to establish laws, policies, rules and regulations.
