Job Description

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY/BEHAVIOR HYDE COUNTY SCHOOLS
Position Purpose The Occupational Therapist / Behavior Specialist provides school-based occupational therapy services to students with disabilities and serves as the district's behavior specialist and liaison. This position supports student access to the educational environment through therapeutic intervention and the development and implementation of behavior supports. The employee collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, supports staff through training, and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Occupational Therapy Services Provides direct and consultative occupational therapy services in accordance with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Conducts screenings, evaluations, and re-evaluations using appropriate assessment tools Develops and implements measurable IEP goals related to occupational therapy Maintains accurate and timely service records, including therapy notes and service duration logs Monitors student progress and adjusts interventions as needed Ensures services support access to the general education curriculum Behavior Specialist Responsibilities Conducts Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) Develops, implements, and monitors Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) Serves as the district liaison for behavior-related services and supports Collaborates with school teams to implement evidence-based behavioral strategies Provides consultation, coaching, and problem-solving support to staff Collaboration and Meetings Attends and participates in IEP and multidisciplinary team meetings Collaborates with teachers, administrators, families, and related service providers Communicates effectively regarding student performance, needs, and services Professional Development Designs and delivers professional development for staff on behavior-related topics Provides ongoing coaching and support in classroom management and positive behavior supports Attends required EC in-service trainings and other professional development activities Grant Support and Data Management Assists with development and submission of the PRC 029 Behavior Grant Collects, maintains, and reports required data for grant compliance Supports implementation and monitoring of grant-funded initiatives Travel and Service Delivery Provides services across multiple district locations, including mainland and island campuses Travels between sites as required to fulfill job responsibilities Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of occupational therapy practices in a school setting Knowledge of special education laws, policies, and procedures (IDEA) Knowledge of behavior assessment and intervention strategies Ability to analyze data and use it to inform instruction and intervention Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills Ability to provide effective staff training and coaching Ability to work independently and collaboratively Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in NC School-based experience preferred Training and/or experience in conducting FBAs and developing BIPs preferred Physical Requirements Ability to perform physical activities associated with occupational therapy services, including lifting, positioning, and assisting students Ability to travel between district sites, including island campus Disclaimer This job description is not intended to be exhaustive.
