Job Description

SLPA HYDE COUNTY SCHOOLS
Position Purpose The Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) supports the delivery of speech-language services to students with communication disorders under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). The SLPA assists in implementing therapy plans, documenting services, and supporting student progress across educational settings. This position serves students at both mainland and island school locations and ensures accurate documentation in compliance with district and state requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Service Delivery Provides direct speech-language therapy services to students as directed by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist Implements treatment plans and intervention strategies developed by the SLP Supports student participation and access to the educational environment Documentation and Compliance Maintains accurate and timely service records in ECATS (Exceptional Children Accountability Tracking System) Records therapy notes, service duration, and student progress in accordance with IEP requirements Assists the supervising SLP with data collection and progress monitoring Collaboration and Support Collaborates with the supervising SLP, teachers, and other school staff to support student communication goals Follows guidance and direction from the supervising SLP regarding therapy implementation and student needs Communicates appropriately with staff regarding scheduling and service delivery Program Support Prepares therapy materials and equipment for sessions Assists in maintaining an organized and safe therapy environment Supports clerical and organizational tasks related to speech-language services as directed Travel and Service Delivery Provides services at multiple district locations, including mainland and island campuses Travels between school sites as required to fulfill assigned duties Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic knowledge of speech and language development and disorders Ability to implement therapy activities as directed by a licensed SLP Strong organizational and documentation skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism Effective communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work collaboratively and follow supervisory direction Minimum Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assisting, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or related field Current licensure or registration as a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant in NC, if applicable Experience working with children in an educational or clinical setting preferred Physical Requirements Ability to assist students with positioning and movement as needed during therapy Ability to lift and carry therapy materials and equipment Ability to travel between district sites, including island campus Disclaimer This job description is not intended to be exhaustive.
