Lead Childcare Worker / Program Coordinator Job Summary The Childcare Worker assists in the daily care, supervision, and education of children enrolled in a school-administered childcare program. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe, nurturing environment that meets the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) Standards for School-Administered Child Care (Chapter 0520-12-01) . The Childcare Worker supports the Lead Worker in implementing activities that promote the social, emotional, and physical development of all students. Key Responsibilities & Duties In accordance with TN State Board of Education regulations, the Childcare Worker will: Supervision & Child Safety Provide continuous, active supervision of children at all times to ensure their safety and well-being. Assist in maintaining state-mandated adult-to-child ratios. Monitor indoor and outdoor play areas for potential hazards and ensure equipment is used safely. Help conduct regular emergency drills (fire, weather, etc.) as required by state standards. Supporting Program Operations Assist the Lead Worker in executing daily lesson plans and age-appropriate activities. Facilitate small group activities, including arts and crafts, storytelling, and physical play. Prepare and organize materials and supplies needed for daily programming. Help maintain a clean and orderly classroom environment, including sanitizing toys and surfaces according to health standards. Student Support & Guidance Model positive social interactions and use approved positive reinforcement techniques for behavior management. Assist children with daily routines, including snack/meal times, rest periods, and personal hygiene/toileting. Be attentive to the individual needs and developmental levels of each child in the group. Documentation & Communication Assist in maintaining accurate daily records, such as attendance, meal logs, and incident reports. Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, school staff, and program leadership. Report any signs of illness, injury, or suspected child abuse/neglect to the supervisor immediately, following TN "Mandated Reporter" laws.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience:
Previous experience working with children in a group setting (licensed childcare, school, or camp) is preferred.
Certifications:
• Must possess or be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification . Must complete a minimum of 18 hours of professional development annually (per TDOE standards).
Clearances:
Must pass a comprehensive criminal background check, fingerprinting, and a health screening/TB skin test as required by Tennessee law.
Physical Ability:
Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs, sit on the floor, and move quickly to respond to a child's needs. Required Knowledge & Skills Basic understanding of child development and age-appropriate behavior. Familiarity with Tennessee's School-Administered Child Care Standards . Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong communication skills and a positive, patient demeanor. Compliance Note This position operates under the jurisdiction of the Tennessee Department of Education .
