Job Description

For over 50 years, CMC has provided an array of customer programs including depot services, equipment sales, trucking, refrigerated services, and maintenance and repair with the nation's largest M&R footprint. CMC is heavily invested in both Marine and Rail sectors. With a focus on family values, safety and customer service, CMC currently has depots in 12 cities throughout the Southeast and Gulf regions and over 40 Maintenance and Repair sites throughout the Northeast, Southeast, Southern and Gulf regions. Due to continued growth and expansion, we are currently seeking an OTR Chassis Mechanic to join our team in Nashville, Tennessee. This position is responsible for performing inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on chassis and related equipment in accordance with FMCSA and DOT regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical skills, the ability to work independently in the field, and a commitment to maintaining high safety and service standards.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Perform FMCSA inspections and repairs in accordance with DOT regulations
  • Conduct wheel end repairs including wheel seals, tires, cam shafts, and brake components
  • Service and repair commercial tires (10.00-20, 11x22.5, 11R22.5)
  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems including marker lights, wiring, and troubleshooting
  • Repair and maintain locking devices such as pins, twist-locks, latches, keepers, and slider assemblies
  • Service landing legs, braces, and suspension systems including radius rods, spring hangers, equalizers, and related brackets
  • Maintain and repair air systems including valves, chambers, hoses, air lines, and ABS troubleshooting
  • Perform structural repairs including welding, cutting, and component installation
  • Complete routine and federal inspections
  • Accurately complete required service documentation and reports
  • Maintain the preventive maintenance, inventory, and condition of assigned service vehicles
  • Manage and organize inventory for the service truck
  • Communicate repair status and issues with management and customers
  • Perform other duties as assigned Required Qualifications
  • Commitment to safety rules and guidelines
  • Motivated, dependable, and team-oriented with a strong work ethic
  • Welding experience
  • Willingness to learn new skills and work on various equipment
  • Valid driver's license (CDL not required)
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
  • Ability to lift 50-75 pounds regularly
  • Must provide personal mechanic tools (company provides power tools)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to read and write legibly
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Experience as a truck, trailer, or tire technician in a shop or road service environment Preferred Skills While not required, the following experience is highly valued.
Training will be provided where needed. 2+ years of experience as a general or specialized technician Mounting, dismounting, and repairing commercial tires and wheels ASE certification in electrical or air brake systems Experience working with 12-24 volt electrical systems Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience Familiarity with DOT inspections (Appendix G) for chassis and/or tractors Knowledge of trailer air systems and wiring Experience working with liftgates Personal set of mechanic tools

From $20.00 per hour
