Job Title:
CNC Machinist (2nd Shift) Job Description This role is for a skilled CNC Machinist who will set up and operate CNC equipment on 2nd shift in a high-quality manufacturing environment. The position focuses on operating multi-axis CNC machining centers or turning centers, performing accurate set-ups, inspecting parts to meet ISO quality standards, and maintaining equipment through routine preventive maintenance. The machinist will work closely with supervisors, peers, suppliers, and customers while supporting a clean, safe, and well-organized production area. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC equipment in the machining area under the direction of a lead or supervisor for assigned, qualified areas. Operate and load multi-axis CNC horizontal or vertical machining centers, or CNC turning centers, as required by production needs. Select appropriate cutting tools, tool grades, and proper speeds and feeds based on programming documentation. Set up and change tooling to support efficient and accurate machining operations. Read, interpret, and complete details on blueprints and schematics using information provided. Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure parts meet dimensional and geometric requirements. Inspect all parts produced in the assigned machining area using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools. Perform quality-related statistical analysis, such as Statistical Process Control (SPC), to monitor and maintain product quality. Maintain quality assurance practices consistent with ISO standards and company quality policies. Perform routine preventive maintenance on machines, including oiling, greasing, and checking coolant levels and concentrations to keep equipment in top operational condition. Use manual wrenches and tools to clamp and unclamp parts securely in fixtures and workholding devices. Comply with all safety procedures, including wearing required protective clothing, properly handling chemicals and products, and using safety and rescue equipment as needed. Keep the work area clean, orderly, and safe, promptly addressing housekeeping and organization needs. Interact and communicate effectively with employees at all levels, as well as with suppliers, customers, and peers. Follow all company policies, procedures, standards, and rules while on the job. Demonstrate punctual, regular, and consistent attendance on the assigned shift. Adapt to changing requirements, priorities, and working conditions within the production environment. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by leadership to support production and business needs. Essential Skills One to three years of related CNC machining experience. Hands-on experience operating and loading multi-axis CNC horizontal or vertical machining centers or CNC turning centers. Experience setting up and changing tooling on CNC machines. Ability to read and interpret simple blueprints and technical specifications. Ability to read, write, and follow verbal instructions in standard English. Basic understanding of mathematics, including geometry and trigonometry. Ability to perform routine projects and tasks under close supervision and handle standard, non-routine tasks as needed. Proficiency with precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers. Familiarity with CNC controls and programming concepts, including Fanuc controls and G & M code. Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles. Ability to work on feet for the entire shift and regularly walk, stand, bend, twist, climb, and reach with hands and arms. Ability to regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds using proper lifting techniques or lifting equipment and assistance. Close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to inspect parts and operate equipment safely. Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. CNC certificate preferred. Experience with lathe machining, including CNC lathes, lathe setup, and vertical lathes. Experience with mills, including CNC milling machines and machining centers. Familiarity with Mazak and Haas machines and controls. Experience with Makino and similar machining equipment. Knowledge of machine speeds, feeds, and tooling selection for various materials and operations. Comfort working with multi-axis machining and axis control. Ability to maintain organization and work effectively in a well-structured production environment. Strong communication skills to work effectively with supervisors, peers, suppliers, and customers. Work Environment This position is on 2nd shift, with hours from Monday through Thursday, 3:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., and Friday, 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. New hires will complete training on 1st shift or a mid-shift before transitioning to 2nd shift. The facility includes two primary production areas focused on different product lines, providing exposure to a variety of machining operations and components. The work environment is well organized and structured to support efficient production and safety. The facility is not temperature controlled, but conditions are described as not excessively hot or cold, and employees should be comfortable working in a typical industrial setting with regular exposure to noise, dust, heat, and cold. Team members spend most of the shift on their feet, moving around the machining area, operating equipment, and handling parts. Proper protective clothing and safety equipment are required and provided in accordance with safety procedures. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to ISO-based quality standards, with access to modern CNC equipment such as multi-axis machining centers, CNC lathes, and related tooling and measuring instruments. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Strongsville, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $32.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
