ABOUT MOTHER'S OUTREACH NETWORK
Mother's Outreach Network (MON) is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit advancing racial justice and economic equity through liberatory legal representation, guaranteed income advocacy, and mother-led policy work. MON centers the lives and leadership of Black mothers navigating the family policing system. We believe poverty is not neglect — and that every family deserves the tools to stay together and thrive.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Communications Coordinator is a full-time, in-person role based in Washington, DC. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position supports MON's communications strategy and leads day-to-day content production across all platforms — translating our mission into compelling narratives that amplify the voices of the mothers we serve.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Production & Scheduling Draft and schedule social media content across Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Bluesky following an approved monthly content calendar Write newsletters, direct mail, and organizational announcements Support production of ED thought leadership content including talking points, op-eds, and public statements Maintain MON's organizational voice across all channels with consistency and fidelity to our liberatory framework Social Media & Community Management Manage day-to-day publishing, scheduling, and community engagement across all active platforms Monitor comments, messages, and mentions; escalate sensitive issues to the ED same business day Produce and edit short-form video and Reels using MON-provided footage Deliver monthly analytics reports with performance data and key takeaways Organizational & Fundraising Communications Support content development for fundraising campaigns and donor stewardship materials Assist with press releases, media list maintenance, and earned media coordination Coordinate with legal and policy staff to ensure external communications are accurate and mission-aligned Design & Production Design graphics and visual assets using Canva or equivalent tools consistent with MON brand standards Maintain an organized content library of photos, graphics, and templates
QUALIFICATIONS 1-3
years of experience in communications, content creation, social media, or a related field Strong writing skills with ability to adapt tone and format across platforms and audiences Experience managing social media platforms in a professional or organizational setting Proficiency in Canva or similar design tools and social media scheduling platforms Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage deadlines independently Deep alignment with MON's mission and liberatory framework Experience in nonprofit, advocacy, or policy communications a plus Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field preferred — equivalent professional experience considered DC community ties preferred
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary range: $48,000 - $58,000 commensurate with experience Comprehensive health benefits Federal and DC-designated holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year's Professional development support This is a full-time, in-person position based in Washington, DC. No remote or hybrid option is available.
