Position Summary We're on the hunt for a highly skilled and compassionate Community Pharmacist to join our vibrant team at People & Pets Pharmacy. You'll be a key player in our mission to provide top-notch pharmaceutical care for both our human and animal patients. The ideal candidate is a patient-focused professional with a strong background in independent pharmacy operations, advanced compounding techniques (for both people and pets!), and comprehensive immunization services. This role demands a commitment to safety, medication optimization, and fostering a collaborative, supportive healthcare environment for our diverse clientele.
What You'll Do:
  • Medication Dispensing & Management (Human & Pet): ○ Accurately review, interpret, and dispense prescriptions for both human and animal patients, ensuring correct dosage, formulation, and labeling.
○ Conduct thorough drug utilization reviews to spot potential interactions, contraindications, and therapeutic duplications for all patients. ○ Provide clear and compassionate medication counseling to people and pet owners, covering proper usage, potential side effects, storage, and adherence tips. ○ Monitor medication therapies for effectiveness and safety, working with prescribers to optimize treatment plans. ○ Keep precise and up-to-date patient records and medication profiles for both human and animal patients.
  • Compounding Excellence (Human & Pet Focused!
): ○ Perform non-sterile hazardous and non-hazardous compounding for human and animal patients in line with USP <795> and USP <800> guidelines (as applicable for hazardous drugs), plus all state and federal regulations. ○ Expertly compound specialized medications for animals, often involving unique flavors and dosage forms to ensure pet acceptance. ○ Guarantee the accuracy, potency, and quality of all compounded preparations, whether for a person or a pet. ○ Maintain meticulous compounding records, including formulations, ingredient traceability, and quality control documentation. ○ Manage and maintain compounding equipment, supplies, and chemicals, sticking to strict inventory control and quality assurance protocols.
    Vaccine & Immunization Services:
    ○ Administer a wide range of vaccines and immunizations to eligible human patients, following state laws and established protocols. ○ Educate patients on vaccine benefits, potential side effects, and recommended immunization schedules. ○ Maintain accurate immunization records and report data to relevant registries. ○ Ensure proper storage, handling, and inventory of vaccines. ○ Administer testing kits (covid, flu, rsv)
      Independent Pharmacy Operations:
      ○ Help ensure the efficient and compliant operation of our unique pharmacy, adhering to all state and federal pharmacy laws, regulations, and accreditation standards. ○ Supervise and support our dedicated pharmacy technicians and support staff, ensuring they follow all policies and procedures. ○ Manage inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and handling returns of medications and supplies for both human and animal use. ○ Address inquiries from patients, pet owners, and healthcare providers, offering accurate and timely drug information. ○ Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals, including veterinarians, to ensure seamless patient care. ○ Handle and resolve patient and pet owner concerns with professionalism and empathy.
        Professional Development & Compliance:
        ○ Stay current with the latest in pharmacotherapy, compounding techniques (for humans and animals!), immunization practices, and pharmacy laws through ongoing professional development. ○ Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and our specialized pharmacy services.
        What You'll Bring:
        • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.
        D.) degree from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy.
        • Active and unrestricted Pharmacist license in Michigan.
        • 3-5 years of direct patient care experience as a Clinical Pharmacist, preferably in an independent community pharmacy setting.
        • Demonstrated experience and certificate in pharmaceutical compounding, with a strong comfort level in preparing medications for both human and animal patients.
        • Current certification in vaccine and immunization administration (e.g., APhA's Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery program or equivalent).
        • In-depth knowledge of pharmacy laws and regulations, including federal and Michigan state guidelines for dispensing, compounding (USP <795> & <800>), and immunizations.
        • Proficiency in pharmacy management software systems.
        • Strong clinical knowledge and expertise in pharmacotherapy, with an interest in veterinary pharmacology.
        • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills with a truly patient-centered approach (for both people and pets!).
        • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
        • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within our close-knit team.
        • A problem-solver with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, sometimes fast-paced environment.

        If You Have:
        • Licensure in other states.
        • Experience with Liberty Software
        • Experience with specific compounding software or equipment.
        • Additional certifications in specialized areas (e.
        g., Medication Therapy Management, Veterinary Pharmacy).
