Job Description

The Construction Manager is responsible for the successful execution of utility-scale solar projects, including site development, mechanical installation, and electrical systems through commissioning. As the Company's full-time, on-site leader, the Construction Manager directs all field operations, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards while maintaining strong relationships with owners, engineers, subcontractors, and utility representatives. Qualifications and Essential Skills Professional Direct experience managing large-scale construction projects with multiple subcontractors and/or self-perform crews Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams including civil, mechanical, and electrical scopes Strong leadership and team-building skills in fast-paced, schedule-driven environments Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to interface with Owners, EPC partners, utilities, AHJs, and subcontractors Demonstrated success delivering complex infrastructure or energy projects Strong understanding of risk management, particularly related to schedule, weather, interconnection, and supply chain Proven ability to resolve conflicts and maintain project momentum Participate in business development, client presentations, and preconstruction efforts Technical Strong knowledge of utility-scale solar construction including: Site preparation, grading, and access roads Pile driving and racking/tracker installation PV module installation DC collection systems (string wiring, combiner boxes) AC systems (inverters, transformers, medium-voltage collection) Substation and interconnection scope (preferred) Understanding of erosion and sediment control and environmental compliance requirements Ability to review drawings and specifications for constructability and sequencing improvements Experience coordinating civil, mechanical, and electrical subcontractors Familiarity with commissioning processes and turnover documentation Strong knowledge of safety requirements; OSHA 30-hour (minimum) Ability to develop and manage complex project schedules (Primavera P6 or similar preferred) Develop and maintain 3-week look-ahead schedules Strong documentation and cost control practices (timekeeping, cost coding, material tracking, etc.) Proficient with Microsoft Office and construction management software Experience Experience managing projects $20M+ (solar or heavy civil/energy projects preferred) 10-20+ years of progressive construction experience, including leadership roles in the field Prior solar, renewable energy, or heavy civil infrastructure experience strongly preferred High School diploma or GED required; Construction Management or Engineering degree preferred Willingness to work on-site in remote locations with travel as required Responsibilities Construction Administration Manage all on-site construction activities from mobilization through commissioning Coordinate with the Project Manager to plan, execute, and maintain the overall project schedule Lead coordination between civil, mechanical, and electrical scopes to ensure proper sequencing Facilitate project meetings with owners, engineers, subcontractors, and utility representatives Support project financials including cost-to-complete forecasting and production tracking Oversee QA/QC programs including civil, mechanical, and electrical inspections and testing Ensure proper documentation including: Daily reports, JSAs, safety documentation Production tracking, delivery tickets, and material logs Test reports, commissioning documentation, and turnover packages Ensure all work meets contract requirements, codes, and quality standards Support change management and field-driven change orders Lead development and implementation of site logistics, traffic control, and safety plans Ensure site is maintained in a safe, organized, and environmentally compliant manner This is a safety-sensitive position Personnel Staff project appropriately with support from Project Manager and HR Supervise and coordinate all field personnel and subcontractors Foster collaboration across trades and project stakeholders Provide input on hiring, performance management, and disciplinary actions Conduct performance reviews for direct reports Mentor and develop field staff, including assistant superintendents and foremen Materials Coordinate procurement and delivery of major materials (modules, racking, inverters, transformers, etc.) Manage laydown areas, storage, and material handling to prevent damage or loss Track material usage and inventory to support cost and schedule control Equipment Coordinate assignment and utilization of company and rental equipment Oversee specialized equipment such as pile drivers, cranes, telehandlers, and trenching equipment Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and inspection of all equipment Enforce company equipment policies and safe operating procedures Coordinate equipment transfers between projects as needed
