Position Description:
Controller Position Title Controller Reporting Relationship Reports directly to the CEO / Owners Works In Conjunction With Billing and Referrals Manager and Clinical Director FLSA Status Exempt Position Summary The Controller serves as the head of the accounting function for a multi-entity practice comprising two clinics, one surgery center, two real estate companies, and one research company. The position provides daily financial oversight, ensuring that financial records are complete, accurate, and compliant with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), organizational policies, and applicable regulations. The Controller supports financial initiatives including transaction processing, financial analysis, revenue recognition, cost allocation, program and annual audit support, process improvement and automation, implementation of financial and compliance controls, and serves as the organization's benefits coordinator. This person is also responsible for ensuring that the CEO and Owners have the most up-to-date financial information and projections for operational decision making and is a thought partner for the CEO. Essential Job Functions Multi-Entity Financial Management Directs the monthly and year-end closing process for all five entities Prepares and analyzes consolidated and entity-specific monthly financial statements Performs intercompany transaction reconciliation and eliminations Executes cost allocation between entities as required Revenue and Cost Recognition Assists in the analysis of revenue recognition for clinical services, surgery center procedures, real estate rental income, and research contracts or grants Ensures conformance with new and existing accounting guidance, including healthcare-specific and ASC 606 standards Monitors expense activity for trend identification, required accruals, and policy compliance Accounting Operations Enters and oversees data entry into company QuickBooks (multi-company files) Maintains and protects all employee payroll data Maintains all staff and patient files in accordance with legal and compliance standards Documents and audits financial transactions across all entities Prepares balance sheet and profit and loss statements Provides weekly updates to the CEO using approved Excel documents on current financial standing, projections for the coming days, and all outstanding AP Billing and Payment Coordination Works with the Billing and Referrals Manager to produce financial and billing reports for owners and the CEO Extensively interacts with vendors, physician policy representatives, and payers to collect and remit payments Identifies and resolves problems and inaccuracies in data entries Internal Controls and Data Security Maintains financial security by following and enforcing internal controls Secures financial data by completing database backups Maintains accounting controls through systematic review and documentation Audit Support and Compliance Supports program and annual audits for all entities Recommends financial actions based on data analysis Ensures financial records comply with GAAP, policies, and regulations Benefits Coordination Coordinates employee benefits (health, dental, vision, 401k, etc.) for the organization Qualifications Education Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a minimum of 5-years related experience Experience Minimum three (5) years of accounting experience Two (2) years of experience in a healthcare setting (preferred) Multi-entity experience strongly preferred Technical Knowledge and Skills Extensive knowledge of administrative duties Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel Working knowledge of QuickBooks Online Strong analytical, prioritization, and time management skills Strong verbal and written communication skills High attention to detail Behavioral Competencies Punctual and reliable Self-motivated with a positive attitude Quick learner Able to work on a team and produce quality output under tight deadlines Able to determine an apt course of action in complex situations Handles difficult situations in a professional manner Completes assignments accurately and promptly Working Conditions Physical Setting Office environment Physical Demands Prolonged periods sitting and working on a computer Ability to handle paper files and perform database backups Supervisory Responsibility None explicitly stated (works with Billing and Referrals Manager and Clinical Director, not necessarily over them)Pay:
