Description:
Job Summary The Dietary Cook is responsible for preparing meals in accordance with prescribed dietary guidelines. This includes cooking for special diets, (such as IDDSI, low-sodium, low-fat, gluten-free, etc.) to meet the nutritional needs of patients, residents, or clients. The cook ensures that meals are prepared in a safe, sanitary manner while maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation.Duties/Responsibilities Meal Preparation:
Prepare, cook, and season food items in accordance with dietary specifications, menus, and recipes.Special Diets:
Follow specific dietary instructions for patients or residents with special dietary needs (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, pureed).Food Safety:
Adhere to food safety standards, including safe food handling, storage, and sanitation practices.Menu Planning Support:
Assist with planning menus that meet nutritional guidelines and special dietary requirements.Portion Control:
Ensure portion sizes are consistent with nutritional standards and dietary plans.Inventory Management:
Assist with the monitoring and management of food supplies, ensuring ingredients are fresh and appropriately stored.Collaboration:
Work closely with nutritionists, dietitians, and other kitchen staff to ensure food meets all health standards.Meal Service:
Assist with serving meals to residents or clients and ensuring proper food temperatures and presentationRequirements:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. Culinary training or certification is a plus.Experience:
Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting.Skills:
Knowledge of dietary requirements and food allergies. Ability to follow recipes and instructions precisely. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Good communication and teamwork skills.Certifications:
Food Handler's Certification (if required by state or region). Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to [specified weight, e.g., 25 lbs]. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Working Conditions Work is generally conducted in a kitchen or food preparation area.
