Corporate Counsel - Commercial Boart Longyear Company United States, Utah, West Valley City 2455 South 3600 West (Show on map) May 14, 2026 Boart Longyear is a global leader in drilling services, providing innovative and reliable solutions to the mining and drilling industry. We are seeking a Corporate Counsel - Commercial to support the Drilling Services division. This role serves as a key business partner to commercial, operations, finance, and supply chain teams, providing timely and pragmatic legal support throughout the global contracting lifecycle. The position also acts as a central legal partner helping align commercial contracting practices across regions and reports directly to our General Counsel - Drilling Services. Responsibilities Commercial Contracts & Negotiation Draft, review and negotiate drilling and service contracts, master service agreements, vendor and supplier agreements, client proposals, and NDAs. Advise commercial and operations teams on contract interpretation, risk allocation, performance obligations, warranty language, indemnities, and limitations of liability. Partner closely with commercial teams on bids and contract qualification requirements, helping coordinate a consistent contracting approach across regions. Collaborate with compliance, finance, ESG/ESH, and operations teams to ensure contract terms align with safety, regulatory and operational requirements. Develop, maintain, and enhance standard contract templates, clause libraries, and playbooks to drive consistent, efficient global contracting practices, and support adoption through practical guidance and training. Evaluate and improve contract workflows, document management practices, and contract lifecycle or matter-management tools to enhance efficiency, user experience, and scalable ways of working. Education LL.B./J.D. or equivalent law degree from a recognized institution required. Valid practicing certificate Experience Minimum 7 years of experience practicing commercial or corporate law, with solid experience in contract drafting and negotiation and the ability to ramp quickly into an independent, globally connected role Inhouse experience preferred; background in drilling, mining, oil & gas, industrial services, or manufacturing strongly preferred Contracting experience across multiple jurisdictions (U.S., Canada, Australia, LATAM), with the ability to help align practices across diverse commercial teams Excellent written and verbal (English) communication skills, including the ability to translate legal guidance into practical direction for business stakeholders Strong business acumen and solutions-oriented approach, delivering clear, practical legal advice under time pressure and across time zones, with sound judgment around commercial risk Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while identifying process improvement opportunities; experience implementing or optimizing contract management tools and comfort using practical technology, including AI-enabled tools for routine work, is advantageous Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and with other corporate departments, while influencing stakeholders and operating resourcefully in a lean environment Professional Spanish fluency is required; French language capability is preferred.
