ISO New England is looking for a rising senior who is curious about energy, data, reliability, and real-world problem solving. In this internship, you'll work alongside industry experts on resource adequacy studies that help ensure more than 14 million people across New England have reliable electricity—today and in the future. We oversee the 24/7 operation of the region's power grid across six New England states and administer the region's $10+ billion wholesale electricity markets. Our work supports reliable electricity for more than 14 million people as they work, study, care for their families, and power their daily lives. About the Department The Capacity Requirement and Accreditation team is responsible for determining the Installed Capacity Requirement (ICR) and related capacity values, accrediting system resources for participation in the Capacity Market, and supporting various interregional planning and reliability studies conducted by NPCC and NERC. What You'll Be Working On As a Resource Adequacy Study Intern, you'll support important studies that help ISO New England evaluate whether the region has the resources needed to meet future electricity demand. You'll work closely with subject matter experts on studies supporting the reformed Capacity Market, including MARS simulations, "what-if" scenario analysis, renewable integration impacts, load growth, resource changes, risk metrics, and data review. This is a hands-on opportunity to build technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills while learning how power system planning decisions are made. You'll gain exposure to capacity market analysis, resource accreditation, reliability planning, and the challenges of integrating renewable energy into the future electric grid. How You'll Make an Impact Your work will help the team conduct its first studies under the reformed Capacity Market and support critical planning activities for New England's electric system. By assisting with simulations, scenario analysis, data review, and process improvement ideas, you'll contribute to more efficient studies and help experienced analysts focus on higher-value insights that support grid reliability. What We Look For in a Candidate A strong, independent work ethic and curiosity about solving complex technical problems Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access Basic understanding of power system concepts Programming experience, preferably in Python or R This employer will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position (ex: H-1B, F-1/CPT/OPT, O-1, E-3, TN, J, etc.). #LI-DNP The expected hourly range for this position is $19-$36 per hour, depending on your year in college. Interns are eligible for some paid time off benefits and have access to our wellness program. Our internships also provide interns with exposure to the energy industry, mentorships, and real-world experience. This is a U.S. based role. If the successful candidate resides outside of the U.S., relocation will be required. To be eligible for an internship with ISO New England, a candidate must have completed at least the first year of college and be currently enrolled in a four year or graduate-level academic program. Candidates must have the authority to work in the US on a permanent basis, without requiring sponsorship.
