Position Overview Preferred Marine is seeking a hands-on, organized and experienced Marine Service Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our service department. For 30 years, Preferred Marine has served the South Florida boating community with a focus on quality service, technical expertise and long-standing customer relationships. We are an established, owner-operated marine service business — not a large corporate dealership or yacht-management operation. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the service department, keep technicians productive, maintain an organized workflow, communicate proactively with customers and make sure work orders move efficiently from initial drop-off through completion and invoicing. The right person does not need to sit behind a desk all day to manage effectively. You should be comfortable working directly with technicians, customers, parts personnel and ownership to keep the department moving. Previous Marine Service Manager experience is valuable, but we are also interested in experienced Marine Service Advisors, Service Writers, Shop Foremen or other marine service professionals who are ready to take the next step into leadership. What You'll Do Lead the Service Team Manage, support and provide direction to our marine technicians and service personnel. Set clear expectations, hold team members accountable and help create an organized, productive work environment. Manage Daily Workflow Own the daily service schedule and technician workflow. Prioritize and dispatch work based on technician skill level, workload, parts availability and customer commitments. Technicians should know what they are working on, what's next and what is expected for completion. Own the Work Orders Track active work orders from initial drop-off through completion and invoicing. Maintain accurate notes, repair status, customer approvals and next actions within our dealer management system. Regularly review open and aging work orders and take action when jobs have stalled. Communicate With Customers Provide clear and proactive communication regarding estimates, repair recommendations, approvals, delays and completion timelines. Handle customer concerns professionally and make sure commitments made to customers are followed through. Prepare Estimates & Drive Service Sales Help identify necessary repairs, maintenance and appropriate upgrades. Clearly explain recommendations to customers, prepare estimates, obtain approvals and help the department achieve its service revenue goals. Coordinate With Parts Work closely with the Parts Department to identify and order required parts, track availability and minimize technician downtime caused by parts delays. Monitor Technician Productivity Know where each technician's jobs stand and identify problems that are slowing work down. Help remove roadblocks and keep work progressing efficiently. Maintain Quality & Accountability Make sure completed work meets Preferred Marine's standards before a vessel is returned to the customer. Address comebacks or service issues promptly and professionally. Improve the Department Work directly with ownership to improve scheduling, communication, workflow and service processes. We want someone who doesn't simply manage today's problems — we want someone who helps build systems that prevent tomorrow's problems. What We're Looking For 3+ years of marine service industry experience preferred Marine Service Manager experience preferred, but not required Experienced Marine Service Advisors, Service Writers and Shop Foremen are encouraged to apply Strong knowledge of outboard-powered boats and marine service operations preferred Mercury Marine / Verado experience is a strong plus Experience coordinating technicians, repair orders, estimates, customer approvals and service scheduling Experience with Lightspeed or another dealer/shop management system is a plus; training is available Strong organizational skills and follow-through Ability to prioritize in a busy, interruption-driven environment Comfortable holding employees accountable while maintaining a positive team environment Strong customer-service and conflict-resolution skills Comfortable communicating repair recommendations and obtaining customer approvals Basic computer proficiency, including email, typing and shop-management software Valid driver's license Ability to move throughout boats, docks, shop and service areas as necessary Exceptional candidates from automotive, powersports or similar technical service-management environments may also be considered. What Success Looks Like At Preferred Marine, a successful Service Manager knows what is happening in the service department. When a customer asks about their boat, there is a clear answer. When a technician finishes a job, the next assignment is ready. When a job is waiting on parts or customer authorization, it is documented and being followed up on. When a work order begins to age, you identify why and get it moving. And when ownership needs to understand the status of the department, the information is readily available within the system — not dependent on one person's memory. Why Preferred Marine?
