Job Description
Overview The Customer Service Specialist serves as a first point of contact for library patrons. Provides support and assistance to customers by responding to a wide variety of questions and requests at the Windsor Library. Duties include, but are not limited to, greeting customers, assisting customers with material checkout, registration for library cards, self-checkout, photocopiers, faxing, etc. Assist customers in locating library materials. Help customers with the use of computers. Work is generally well-defined and performed under direct supervision. Position functions independently on routine work, but questionable cases and situations are referred to the immediate supervisor. This is a 26-hour-a-week position working at the Windsor Library, which requires working evenings and weekends.
Schedule is:
M 1:00pm-7:00pm, TH 1:00pm- 7:00pm OR 9:00am
- 3:00pm, F 11:00
- 5:00, SAT 9:00am
- 5:00pm.

Customer Service. Provide customer service to all who use library services, whether in person, online, or by phone. Provide suggestions to readers, instruct customers on the use of the library catalog, and on how to locate items in the shelves. Place unavailable library items on hold and/or request interlibrary loans for customers. Offer patron assistance on the use of computers, computer programs, databases, printing, scanning, electronic devices, and photocopiers. Respond to customer's written inquiries through email and telephone correspondence. Follow library policies and procedures while protecting patron confidentiality. Assist with library events. 2. Shelving and Maintenance of Public Spaces and Materials Monitor and maintain the browsing areas, including all computer stations. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming public area. Checking in and shelving library materials. Maintaining library displays of materials. Process and shelve newspapers, magazines and supplements, and handle other mail. 3. Other duties and assigned Education and Experience Required Requires completion of high school with a diploma or G.E.D. Customer service experience is highly preferred. Strong computer and technology skills are highly desirable. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Adept at computer, internet, and photocopiers; Google Suite and Canva knowledge is a plus. Strong customer service and interpersonal communications. Strong ability to use computers, library software, standard office equipment, telephones and telephone system. Adaptable to new technologies. Demonstrate ability to think logically, exercise initiative, and act in the best interest of the library. Good oral and written communication and social skills. Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a public service environment. Commitment to providing equitable and inclusive service to all patrons. Excellent organizational skills with a high degree of attention to detail. Work Environment Position requires being up and moving around Library locations and, at times, stationary at work station. The job requires stooping, bending, squatting, and stretching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds is required. This position requires loading and unloading large carts and bins of books, as well as pushing full book carts for shelving in the library. Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (with keyboard, shelving), eye-hand coordination, data entry, and computer use for accessing information.
