Work of Art Services, Inc. offers professional art handlers and installers an opportunity to work with our team at various venues throughout the Bay Area, as dispatched from our primary office in Oakland. We are looking for someone based in Oakland or the East Bay with experience in art handling, shipping, crating or artist studios. We encourage artists to apply, as this is a creative business! The ideal candidate has a professional demeanor and a positive attitude, has an eye for detail, is organized, self-motivated, can take critique, follow instructions and can work with demanding clientele. Someone who is efficient and a team player, and is capable of learning on the job. Understanding of basic math and proficiency with hand tools is a must (power drills, tape measures, hammers, etc). Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb moderate heights on ladders is also a necessity. Hands-on experience working with art materials, scissor lifts, scaffolding, forklifts, packing, wrapping and shipping experience is considered an asset. This position is a 1099 independently contracted position, with installers functioning as subcontractors to Work of Art Services Inc. On call scheduling is to be anticipated. Artworks and installation projects you will be handling as an Art Handler with Work of Art Services are the following:

• Artwork, 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional ( Paintings, photographs, framed or unframed )
• Sculptures, delicate objects (ceramics, clay, glass, metal, etc )
• Rail systems, standoffs and 3-point security hardware.
• Gallery walls, grids, and multiple items/grouping installations
• Occasional installation of mirrors, headboards, shelvings, bookcases, coat hangers, etc.
• Wrap, pack and crate artwork for local transportation and shipping.
• Load and unload artwork from transport vehicles, secure artworks in vehicle for transport. Responsibilities
• Handle artwork of various values and mediums responsibly and respectfully.
• Take measurements and accurately calculate installation requirements.
• Assess and safely install artworks with adequate hardware and security attachments.
• Inspect and determine the appropriate materials needed in preparation for projects.
• Follow instructions from clients, designers, art consultants, gallery owners, and fellow team members.
• Work efficiently in a timely manner.
• Work in a team setting where clear communication with clients and team members is of the highest priority.
• Respect and maintain Work of Art Services property, which includes, all tools, equipment and company vehicles.

Requirements:

• Must have a valid California Driver's License and good driving record
