Children's Ballet Theatre's mission in its forty-six year history is to provide a youth-oriented, community-based ballet performance company in Michigan with the highest possible dance, artistic and performance standards, while fostering a greater appreciation of ballet as an art form.
Job Overview:
The Ballet Mistress/Ballet Master is responsible for artistic preparation, rehearsal, supervision, and development of company dancers under the direction of the Artistic Director. This role ensures dancers are technically and artistically prepared for performances while fostering a safe, professional, and supportive environment.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Artistic & Performance Preparation Assist in leading rehearsals and coaching choreography while ensuring dancers embody the artistic vision of the Artistic Director. Coach new and existing cast members to ensure seamless integration into productions. Ensure dancers meet production standards for costume, hair, makeup, and overall stagepresentation. Maintain the artistic integrity and technical standards of the Company's repertoire.
Dancer Development:
Conduct pointe readiness evaluations and monitor continued pointe work for safety and technical proficiency, consulting qualified medical or physical professionals when appropriate. Ensure dancers maintain a thorough knowledge of the Company's repertoire and performance expectations. Monitor student progress and well-being, implementing strategies for improvement while maintaining appropriate confidentiality. Provide positive and constructive feedback to students to foster their technical and artistic development.

Supervision & Company Standards Ensure compliance with all health and safety policies during rehearsals and performances. Reinforce the Company's standards of conduct, professionalism, and artistic excellence.
Communication & Collaboration:
Maintain open communication with students, parents, and other staff to ensure a positive learning environment. Work collaboratively with the Artistic Director, choreographers, production, wardrobe, props, and other departments to support successful productions.

Administrative Responsibilities Assist with scheduling and other administrative duties as assigned. Attend and participate in all staff, company meetings, tech week rehearsals, and performances. Represent the Children's Ballet Theatre of Michigan professionally within the organization and atperformances, community events, and external venues.
Working Conditions:
Must have the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, tech week rehearsals, and performances. Must have the ability to stand, walk, move around, repeat movements, and otherwise physicallyexert for extended periods of time.
Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge of classical ballet technique and repertoire. Bachelor's degree in dance or equivalent in teaching experience for classically trained balletdancers. Experience instructing dancers of various ages and skill levels. Understanding of age-appropriate dancer development, injury prevention, and rehearsalpractices. Leadership & Interpersonal Skills Strong leadership, mentoring, and coaching abilities. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to foster teamwork, professionalism, and a positive learning environment.
Organizational & Management Skills:
Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced artistic environment. Ability to support the efficient daily operation of rehearsals and productions. Commitment to maintaining the highest artistic, ethical, and professional standards. Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
