Job Description
We're a fast-growing B2B podcast production agency based in Houston. We work with executives, brands, and organizations to build high-quality podcast and media experiences, including studio design, production, and post-production. We're looking for an AV Design & Technical Lead to own how we design our studios, standardize our equipment, and develop the technical skills of our installation team. This is a hands-on technical role. You'll create the drawings and documentation our install team builds from, maintain our equipment standards, train and mentor technicians, and serve as the technical escalation point when problems come up in the field. What You'll Actually Be Doing AV Design & Documentation Create 2D AV room designs and system layouts using Rayon or a comparable drafting tool. Build accurate BOMs and equipment schedules that can be used directly for procurement and installation. Ensure drawings and documentation are clear, complete, and buildable. Review field feedback and improve designs to reduce installation issues and revisions. Equipment Standards Own and continuously maintain the company approved equipment List. Research and vet new equipment before it is approved for use. Evaluate equipment based on reliability, compatibility, performance, availability, and suitability for Speakerbox projects. Ensure discontinued or outdated equipment is removed from active use. Training & Technician Development Build and launch an AV Design & Install Training Program within your first six months. Establish clear technical competency levels and training standards for installation technicians. Conduct monthly 1:1s with each technician to review development, identify knowledge gaps, and provide guidance. Work with Art Directors to develop product, training, and technical materials. Technical Support & Escalation Provide remote technical support to installation technicians when issues arise in the field. Troubleshoot equipment and systems remotely and walk technicians through the resolution step by step. Serve as the technical escalation point when the Production Director cannot resolve an issue. Identify the root cause of recurring technical problems and develop permanent solutions rather than repeatedly patching the same issue. What We're Looking For 5+ years of experience in AV design, integration, or technical operations, including hands-on installation experience. Proficiency in Rayon or a comparable drafting/design tool, with the ability to produce buildable drawings. Strong understanding of AV signal flow, including video routing, audio DSP, networked AV, control systems, and lighting. Proven experience creating BOMs and equipment schedules. Experience mentoring or training technical staff. Strong remote troubleshooting and diagnostic communication skills. Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong technical documentation skills. Able to explain complex technical problems clearly and give practical, step-by-step guidance. Preferred Experience Broadcast, podcast, studio, or production environment experience. CTS or CTS-D certification. Dante, Q-SYS, or Crestron certifications. Experience creating technical documentation or training curriculum. Travel required as needed. Hotel and flights covered.
