The Office of Student Leadership and Involvement (OSLI) at Oberlin College invites applications for the position of Equipment Technician II - Event Productions. This is a full‐time, 11‐month (January 21‐ December 20) (.9166 FTE), Administrative Assistant position reporting to the Director of Student Involvement. Responsibilities The incumbent will have general responsibility for providing live sound reinforcement and lighting for campus events and will perform the following specific duties under the general supervision of the Director. Essential Job Functions Schedule and direct the presentation of live sound reinforcement for campus events (including concerts, lectures, panel discussions, etc.). Consult with appropriate programming personnel (and related sponsoring departmental or student organization representatives) to determine equipment needs and the extent of audio support needed/available for events. Coordinate all OSLI sound and theater lighting operations. Live streaming of select co-curricular and extra-curricular events supported by Event Productions. Provide webinar assistance for select co-curricular and extra-curricular events supported by Event Productions. Plan and execute the assignment and movement of Event Productions equipment to and from venues. Work closely with the OSLI Scheduling Manager to coordinate audio and lighting equipment and facility requirements. Follow policies related to the scheduling and use of audio and lighting equipment within the department. In Conjunction with the Director and/or Event Productions Tech III review contracts and inform programming personnel of the feasibility of on-campus versus off-campus sound reinforcement options. Consult with outside sound vendors and arrange rental/delivery of all additional equipment needs. Maintain inventory records for all Event Productions equipment, including in‐house systems (Finney Chapel, Dionysus nightclub, Wilder Main Lounge and lecture halls, Cat‐in‐the‐Cream Coffeehouse, and Bowling Lanes) and portable systems. Provide troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of Event Productions equipment or co-coordinate maintenance through outside vendors. Assist in the annual preventative maintenance process and maintain repair history records. Recommend equipment purchase needs. Assist Event Productions Tech III with Hiring, training, supervision, and scheduling student staff members who assist with sound reinforcement (approximately 15-20 students). Assist the Event Productions Tech III in generating monthly Event Production billing information for services provided. Marginal Job Functions Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Baccalaureate degree, degree from certified live audio training program, or equivalent combination of education/training and live sound reinforcement or AV experience; 1‐3 years of experience in maintenance and repair of technical equipment; 1‐3 years of experience demonstrating knowledge and ability to operate live sound reinforcement equipment (including professional analog and digital consoles and digital audio processors) and lighting equipment in a variety of settings which include a wide range of musical genres; computer literacy utilizing a variety of word processing, database and spreadsheet applications including computer aided audio programs; ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. and to exert considerable physical effort in transporting equipment, including frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling and stooping; ability to work professionally with a diverse group, including students, faculty, staff, performers and their technical crews/traveling "roadies"; must possess a valid driver's license and have the ability to operate a box truck for transporting gear both on campus and throughout the greater Cleveland area; position requires a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends and some holidays; must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; and favorable references. Compensation This pay grade 7 position provides an hourly rate of $30.04, or the appropriate transfer rate for internal candidates, and includes a generous benefits package. This position is available to both internal Ocope members and external candidates, with current members receiving preference during the first 10-days, expiring September 13, 2026.
