Holland America Line & Seabourn

Entertainment DJ - Resident Performer

Job Description

Entertainment DJ -

Resident Performer Department:
Entertainment Employment Type:
Fixed Term Contract Location:

Global Description The Entertainment DJ provides the soundtrack to the guest vacation experience. From poolside sessions, to themed parties, sailaway events, game show support, and nightclub operations, this role is for a professional DJ who reads a room instinctively, moves easily between genres and eras, and is as comfortable on the microphone as behind the decks. Holland America Line guests are curious, well-traveled, and span a wide range of ages and musical tastes. They come aboard for immersive itineraries and expect a refined, welcoming atmosphere throughout the ship, which means the music has to work as hard for a mid-afternoon deck crowd as it does for a late-night dance floor. The DJs who succeed with us are the ones who can move fluently across decades and genres, and who understand that reading this audience is a craft in itself. This is a guest-facing role in the fullest sense. Beyond the booth, you are a Brand Ambassador for Holland America Line, expected to be visible and approachable throughout the ship: greeting guests, building rapport, and encouraging participation. If you take pride in curating the perfect moment, thrive on live audience connection, and enjoy being part of the guest experience on and off the stage, this is your chance to take your craft to sea.

•This is a sea-going position requiring being onboard a vessel from as short as 2-3 weeks, to as long as 4 months. Resident Performers must have a valid passport, crew visas, and a seafarer medical certificate. Key Responsibilities Perform professional DJ sets during sailaways, poolside programming, nightclub operations, deck parties, themed events, and other scheduled activities. May be scheduled for up to six performance hours per day, in accordance with the Maritime Labour Convention and company scheduling standards. Curate music programming appropriate to audience demographics, venue atmosphere, itinerary, and brand standards. Read audience dynamics and adjust music selections, tempo, and energy levels to maximize guest engagement. Incorporate guest song requests seamlessly whenever operationally appropriate. Serve as an approachable, visible ambassador of the Entertainment department, engaging with guests during events and throughout the ship. Provide musical support, atmosphere, and energy for game shows, themed parties, and special events. Partner with Entertainment leadership to execute scheduled activities, and assist with promotional efforts to drive awareness and attendance. Maintain and operate DJ equipment and audio playback systems, conducting sound checks and equipment testing as required. Maintain and utilize a professional music library — music and performance content acquired and managed by the DJ — to support onboard programming and guest requests. Ensure all music programming aligns with company content guidelines and brand positioning. Maintain compliance with all safety, security, maritime, and company policies and procedures.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Required Experience:

Minimum of five years of experience as a professional DJ performing in live entertainment environments. Demonstrated experience providing music programming for private events, corporate functions, weddings, galas, and other upscale guest-focused events. Proven ability to perform for diverse audiences across a variety of settings, including high-energy nightlife, dance clubs, themed parties, and social events. Experience incorporating guest requests while maintaining the overall flow and atmosphere of an event. Experience operating professional DJ equipment, digital music libraries, and audio playback systems. Comfortable hosting on and off microphone. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills gained through direct guest interaction. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Experience:

Successful completion of at least one contract aboard a cruise ship in a DJ and Host capacity. Previous experience as a host, emcee, activities host, or other guest-facing entertainment role on a cruise ship. Experience supporting themed events, deck parties, trivia, game shows, and interactive entertainment programming. Experience working within the cruise, hospitality, resort, tourism, or live entertainment industries. Experience collaborating with performers, musicians, technicians, and entertainment teams.
