Job Description

Managing Editor The Grundy Register Grundy Center, Iowa The Grundy Register, a long-established and trusted newspaper serving Grundy County, Iowa, is seeking a Managing Editor to lead our newsroom and help shape the future of local journalism in our communities. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced journalist who is passionate about community news, storytelling, digital media, and making a difference in the lives of local readers. The Managing Editor will oversee news coverage throughout Grundy County, including local government, schools, community events, features, business news, and sports.
Responsibilities:
Lead and manage all editorial operations for The Grundy Register. Plan, assign, edit, and produce high-quality news, feature, sports, and community content. Develop relationships with local schools, government officials, businesses, organizations, and community leaders. Attend and cover meetings, events, and breaking news as needed. Write and edit stories for both print and digital platforms. Ensure timely updates to the newspaper's website and social media channels. Maintain high journalistic standards, accuracy, fairness, and AP style. Coordinate with photographers, freelancers, and contributors. Assist in growing digital readership and audience engagement. Help identify and develop story ideas that matter most to residents throughout Grundy County.
Qualifications:
Previous journalism, newspaper, or media experience preferred. Strong writing, editing, interviewing, and communication skills. Ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines. Familiarity with digital publishing, websites, and social media platforms. Knowledge of AP Style preferred. Photography and video experience are a plus. A passion for local journalism and community storytelling.
