An Editor reviews stories, reports or manuscripts, makes corrections, and works with writers to improve content and structure of writing. Plans and coordinates material to be included in publications. Works with print material or website content. May specialize in copy editing (careful review of text for errors) or other types of editing; may work as an executive editor with authority to approve publications and contracts.
The News Editor is responsible for news section of The Xavierite . The News Editor is responsible for assigning beats to news reporters and correspondents as well as maintaining contacts with contributors for the News Section. This student employment opportunity supports the development of skills aligned with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies. MUST BE A STUDENT AT SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY
Must be Federal Work Study E ligible Must Include a Resume and Cover Letter Responsible for the News Section layout of The Xavierite newspaper Reports on all SXU and local area news events Ensures that the News Section is 3 pages of content per issue. Writes stories following the pyramid news writing style Ensures all articles are written accurately, fairly, and with as little biased as possible Produces 2 articles per week and oversees section layout Attends weekly section meeting with the Editor in Chief and Deputy Editor in Chief Attends weekly general staff meeting. Meets weekly with his/her section writers Maintains weekly-posted office hours in The Xavierite office. (6 hours per week) Attends news writing workshop held by Journalistic advisor and
