PART-TIME EDITOR
Valley Sports Daily is seeking a part-time editor to help oversee the daily operation of our website and social media channels while contributing original coverage of high school sports throughout the Merrimack Valley Conference. Coming off a successful first year, ValleySports aily is ready to take its coverage to the next level. We are looking for an organized, reliable and motivated editor who can help maintain the site's strong foundation, expand its coverage and grow its audience throughout the Merrimack Valley. This is a hands-on role. The editor will be responsible for keeping the website accurate, active and up to date throughout the high school sports calendar while also producing stories, features and other original content. Responsibilities Update daily scores, schedules and standings Create and publish daily scoreboard posts and highlights Edit, format and publish stories submitted by contributors Write game stories, features, notebooks, previews and other original content Develop story ideas and identify athletes, teams, trends and events worth featuring Manage the site's daily editorial calendar Post breaking news, game results, all-star selections and other league updates Manage ValleySportsDaily's social media accounts and promote published content Communicate with coaches, athletic departments and contributors to collect scores, information and story submissions Assign coverage to content producers and coordinate coverage across different sports Maintain consistent editorial, formatting and accuracy standards Identify opportunities to grow traffic, engagement and ValleySportsDaily's presence in the community Monitor the website for outdated information, broken pages or other publishing issues Qualifications Strong writing, editing and communication skills Excellent attention to detail, particularly with names, scores, statistics and schedules Ability to work independently and meet daily deadlines Strong knowledge of high school sports and an understanding (or willingness to learn) of the Merrimack Valley Conference Experience with WordPress or another website publishing platform is preferred Experience managing social media accounts is preferred Previous sports journalism, digital media, communications or website management experience is preferred, but candidates with related experience are encouraged to apply Availability during afternoons, evenings and weekends when high school sporting events are taking place Location and Schedule This is a part-time position with a flexible and primarily remote schedule. Candidates do not need to live in the Merrimack Valley, but familiarity with the area and the ability to attend occasional local events or meetings would be beneficial. The workload will vary throughout the school year and will be heavier during active fall, winter and spring sports seasons. Compensation This is a paid part-time position. Compensation will be based on experience, availability and the final scope of responsibilities.
