Position Summary:
The primary focus of this position is to work independently reviewing, organizing and editing legislation and working with municipal clients in the preparation of supplements.
Essential Functions:
Read and assimilate background information on client and identify special instructions or needs Incorporate additional legislation and/or amend existing legislation Determine impact of legislation on Code and completeness of information provided Finalize Disposition List from legislation database Review legislation and other materials for internal conflicts, inconsistencies and clarity Edit content for organization, grammar and style Add historical information Create or revise effective chapter, article and section titles Check, create or revise cross-references in the text Check statutory references Add editor's notes Identify missing legislation or missing wording in the text of legislation Set style for word processing/proofreading to carry out Update Adopting Ordinances and supporting documents Clarify project deliverables with client Follow up on material in hold
Secondary Functions:
Communicate to other functions any pertinent information needed for the project Execute project to most efficiently meet client needs and project budgets Set and enforce schedules and timelines, where appropriate Communicate with clients via phone, written contact and teleconference, as needed Resolve conflicts and solve problems
Requirements:
Essential Skills and Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree or demonstrated equivalent experience/skills Ability to interact with others and to communicate clearly the expectations and instructions for carrying out project requirements Demonstrated project management skills Ability to manage multiple projects successfully Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong customer service acumen Excellent reading comprehension Excellent memory Attentiveness to detail Organized thinking patterns Good organizational and time management skills Good overall working knowledge of MS Office Applications, including file management through
Windows Explorer Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer or desk Occasional standing, walking, and reaching to access files or office supplies Manual dexterity for typing, filing, and handling office equipment Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally (e.g., office supplies, documents) Visual acuity to read printed and digital materials Auditory ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone May need to climb stairs in multi-level office building
