The company is in the midst of an exciting digital transformation and looking for energetic and talented people who care about journalism and the Middle East to join us on this journey. We provide original and indispensable reporting, perspectives and commentary on the Middle East and how America's engagement impacts the region. MBN delivers content in both Arabic and English across multiple platforms, in formats including written articles, short-form video, newsletters, podcasts, data trackers and social media. Our target audience is decision-makers, influencers, and residents of key capitals across the Middle East, as well as the next generation of globally engaged, digitally connected youth. About the Role The English Editor is responsible for editing, adapting, and preparing Arabic-origin and English-language editorial content for publication across MBN's English platforms. This role requires strong editorial judgment, excellent English-language writing and editing skills, cultural fluency, and the ability to preserve the original editorial intent, sourcing, context, and journalistic standards while ensuring the content is clear, accurate, engaging, and appropriate for English-speaking audiences. The English Editor works closely with Arabic-speaking journalists, correspondents, producers, and editors to ensure that MBN's English-language content reflects the quality, accuracy, and authority of the original reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following tasks are considered essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions: Edit and adapt Arabic-origin editorial content into clear, accurate, and audience-appropriate English while preserving the original meaning, sourcing, context, and editorial intent. Review English-language content for clarity, accuracy, tone, grammar, structure, consistency, and platform suitability. Work collaboratively with Arabic-language journalists, correspondents, producers, and editors to ensure the English version accurately reflects the original reporting and editorial purpose. Identify cultural references, idiomatic language, regional terminology, and contextual elements that may require clarification or adaptation for English-speaking audiences. Edit and prepare English-language content for multiple platforms, including website articles, newsletters, podcast scripts, social media, video captions, and other digital formats. Write and edit headlines, subheads, newsletter subject lines, social media captions, and other platform-specific copy. Ensure proper use of names, places, institutions, titles, and transliterations from Arabic into English. Serve as a final editorial quality-control reviewer for English-language content prior to publication. Support consistency in MBN's English editorial voice, tone, style, and language standards. Assist in developing, maintaining, and applying MBN's English-language style guidance, including spelling conventions, transliteration standards, and usage rules. Monitor English-language content for accuracy, consistency, and alignment with MBN's editorial standards. Collaborate with editorial leadership to improve workflow, editorial quality, and cross-language publishing standards.
Other Duties:
Perform additional job-related duties and take on new responsibilities as needed based on organizational requirements and circumstances.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Candidates are required to have: Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Middle East Studies, Translation, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in journalism, editing, digital media, editorial production, or related newsroom work. Excellent English writing, editing, grammar, and copy-editing skills. Strong understanding of Arabic-language content, cultural context, and regional terminology. Professional proficiency in Arabic and English strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to adapt complex content for English-speaking audiences while preserving accuracy, context, and editorial intent. Strong knowledge of journalistic standards, editorial ethics, accuracy, sourcing, and fact-checking practices. Experience editing content for digital platforms, newsletters, social media, podcasts, or multimedia journalism. Ability to write effective headlines, subheads, captions, summaries, and platform-specific copy. Strong attention to detail, especially with names, places, titles, institutions, and transliteration. Ability to work under deadline pressure in a fast-paced newsroom environment. Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multilingual and multicultural teams. Familiarity with Middle East politics, culture, history, and current affairs preferred. Experience maintaining or applying editorial style guides preferred. MBN is an equal opportunity employer committed to workforce diversity.
