Hourly Rate:
$17/hour with a guarantee of 60-70 hours per project. Hours vary by school site and program About the Position Town Hall Education is hiring Costume Designers for onsite and offsite residency programming. Potential hires are paired with programs based on their availability and program schedule and needs. Town Hall Education is the education department at Town Hall Theatre Company in Lafayette. THEd is a process-based program committed to serving students from preschool age through adulthood. Our core values lie in student empowerment and building connection, empathy, trust, and collaboration. Costume designers are expected to be present for all tech rehearsals and shows at per project. Costume Designers report to the Residency Manager, Education Coordinator, and Education Director. Main Duties Take measurements and pull/purchase/create costumes for students Plan fittings around the director's schedule Work with Residency Manager and Technical Director to design and assign projects for students to build for their school's shows Maintain strong communication with the rest of the production team during the process of building show elements. Attend any and all production meetings arranged by the Education Director or direct Head of Department. Participate in Professional Development and Staff Trainings throughout the year. Lead a safe, inclusive, and process-based classroom built to create learning opportunities that specifically draw upon the Skill Building focuses outlined for their programs Attend all tech rehearsals and performances to help students with costumes and costume changes Experience Minimum 1 year experience working in theater with an interest in costume design and sewing/mending skills. Experience or current practice in working with children ages 4th grade-12th grade. We're looking for designers who have patience for children and feel comfortably skilled enough to work with children. Transportation a bonus, but not required. Town Hall Theatre is BART accessible from the Lafayette station (15 minute walk). Email with resume and cover letter.
