Job Description

The world's largest printing, marketing and design franchise, is seeking an experienced Graphic Designer / Prepress Production Artist to join our team. This is a hands-on position for someone with professional experience designing and preparing files specifically for commercial print production . We are looking for a candidate who understands that great design is only part of the job. Files also need to be accurate, properly prepared and ready to produce. The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop , and have a strong understanding of prepress, digital printing and print production. Previous experience working in a commercial print shop, sign shop or similar production environment is strongly preferred. This is not an entry-level graphic design position . Candidates should be comfortable managing multiple jobs at once, working directly with customer-supplied files and preparing artwork for production with minimal supervision. Qualifications 3+ years of recent professional graphic design and/or prepress experience, preferably in a commercial print environment Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop Strong understanding of print production and prepress requirements Experience preparing customer files for digital and large-format printing Knowledge of bleeds, crop marks, color modes, resolution, fonts, linked images and PDF preparation Ability to troubleshoot and correct customer-supplied artwork Strong typography, layout and general design skills Excellent attention to detail Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to prioritize and manage multiple jobs in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to work independently while also being part of a team Experience with digital printing, finishing and bindery equipment is highly preferred Daily Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Design and typeset a wide variety of customer projects including business cards, brochures, postcards, booklets, forms, menus, invitations, signs, banners and other printed materials Review incoming customer artwork and determine whether files are production ready Prepare and preflight files for print production Check fonts, links, image resolution, bleeds, margins, color settings and overall file accuracy Correct, rebuild or adjust customer-supplied artwork when necessary Create bleeds, crop marks and appropriate print-ready PDFs Impose artwork and prepare files for digital print production Communicate with customers regarding artwork, file requirements, proofs and design changes Create and send customer proofs and make requested revisions Review work orders and job specifications to ensure finished products match customer expectations Work closely with customer service and production staff to keep jobs moving efficiently through the shop Operate digital printing equipment as needed Assist with finishing and bindery including cutting, folding, scoring, stapling, padding and other production tasks if needed. Maintain organized customer and production files using established franchise procedures Assist with equipment maintenance and inventory management Maintain a clean and organized workspace and contribute to the overall organization of the shop What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who understands the entire print workflow , from receiving a customer's artwork through preparing the file, proofing, printing and finishing the final product. The right person is dependable, detail-oriented and comfortable taking ownership of their work. You should be able to spot potential production problems before they become problems and understand how design decisions affect the finished printed piece. Most importantly, we are looking for a team player with a strong work ethic, positive attitude and genuine experience in print design and prepress production.
