Type:
full-time Company Description Schurco Slurry, headquartered and manufacturing in Jacksonville, Florida, has been a leader in slurry and abrasive pumping solutions since 1975. The company serves a global market through worldwide distribution and is 100% American owned and operated, with a strong focus on reliability, availability, value, and customer satisfaction. Schurco Slurry provides heavy-duty centrifugal slurry pumps and replacement parts for demanding industries such as hard rock mining, mineral processing, power generation, and aggregate production. Known for handling highly abrasive applications and maintaining some of the lowest lead times in the industry, Schurco Slurry is recognized for its engineering expertise, pump manufacturing, repairs, and remanufacturing. Applicants can expect to join an organization that emphasizes quality, attentive service, and the standards associated with an American manufacturer. Role Description Schurco Slurry is seeking a motivated and adaptable Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team. This position will initially focus on supporting the design, documentation, and manufacture of heavy-duty centrifugal pumps and related equipment. Our engineers collaborate closely across manufacturing, assembly, sales, and field service, providing the opportunity to see designs move from concept and CAD through production, assembly, and real-world application. We're looking for an engineer who wants to understand why and how things work, not simply produce drawings. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, proficiency with 3D CAD, and an interest in understanding how engineered products are designed, manufactured, and applied in the field. This individual should be comfortable working independently, solving unfamiliar problems, and collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, sales, quality, and field service. This position may expand into product development, reverse engineering, pump performance analysis, customer application support, and other areas based on the individual's strengths and the needs of the company. The right candidate will have the opportunity to develop broad, hands-on engineering experience while contributing directly to the continued development of Schurco Slurry products. Responsibilities Create and revise 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings using SolidWorks. Design and modify pump components, assemblies, baseplates, guards, piping arrangements, and other mechanical equipment. Prepare accurate, manufacturing-ready drawings incorporating appropriate dimensions, tolerances, fits, materials, and manufacturing requirements. Provide day-to-day engineering support to manufacturing, assembly, quality, sales, and field-service personnel. Participate in design reviews and collaborate with other engineers on new products, product improvements, and cost-reduction initiatives. Assist with the development and maintenance of engineering standards, drawing practices, bills of materials, and technical documentation. Communicate with suppliers and internal manufacturing personnel regarding technical requirements and component design. Support inspection and dimensional verification of components and assemblies. Learn the construction, operation, and performance characteristics of centrifugal slurry pumps. Perform other engineering responsibilities based on company needs and the candidate's demonstrated strengths. Qualifications and Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software. Ability to create and interpret mechanical drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, fits, and section views. Understanding of fundamental mechanical-engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, materials, and fluid mechanics. Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in manufactured equipment. Effective problem-solving, organizational, and technical communication skills. Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively with limited supervision. Willingness to work in an office, manufacturing, and assembly environment as required. Preferred Qualifications Two or more years of mechanical design, manufacturing, rotating-equipment, or related engineering experience. Experience designing cast, machined, fabricated, or elastomer-lined components. Familiarity with GD&T. Experience with pumps, rotating equipment, mineral processing, mining, aggregates, or other heavy industrial equipment. Understanding of centrifugal pump operation, pump curves, fluid systems, or hydraulic calculations. Experience supporting manufacturing, quality control, assembly, or field troubleshooting. Experience with portable CMM equipment, 3D scanning, dimensional inspection, or reverse engineering. Familiarity with engineering change-control processes and bills of materials. Familiarity with applicable ANSI, ASME, ASTM, or ISO standards.
