The company is a leading U.S. distributor of plumbing repair and replacement products, supplying components and products across a broad range of residential plumbing applications and retail channels. The Product Design Engineer Contractor will support the full product development lifecycle, from initial concept and design through prototyping, testing, and manufacturing. This role will work closely with manufacturing partners, vendors, customers, marketing, and internal engineering teams. Key Responsibilities Provide technical support to manufacturing, production, vendors, customers, and marketing teams, including design layouts, specifications, engineering investigations, calculations, failure analysis, root cause analysis, and FEA. Provide engineering input on materials, color specifications, packaging, cost considerations, product lines, product offerings, and potential new product opportunities. Develop new product concepts and designs using 2D drawings, 3D CAD models, renderings, and supporting engineering documentation . Modify and adapt existing products based on market requirements, customer needs, manufacturing considerations, and continuous improvement initiatives. Support ongoing improvements to engineering design practices, processes, and procedures. Recommend and implement product redesigns to improve manufacturability, reduce production costs, and address or prevent potential field issues. Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, vendors, and other business functions throughout the product lifecycle. Perform other related duties as assigned. Position Requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field . 2-5 years of experience in product design, mechanical design, or drafting. Experience designing plastic components or parts is preferred. Knowledge of manufacturing processes and production methods. Hands-on experience with SolidWorks and strong knowledge of mechanical drawings. Experience creating and interpreting 2D engineering drawings and 3D CAD models . Ability to apply creative problem-solving through CAD modeling, rapid prototyping, engineering analysis, and FEA. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing product documentation, technical instructions, or user manuals. Familiarity with manufacturing materials and processes. Exposure to international manufacturing and supplier processes is a plus. Knowledge or interest in the plumbing, home improvement, or consumer products industry is preferred. Working knowledge of metallurgy and engineering materials is a plus. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and work effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including senior management.
