This contract role is ideal for someone fluent in American Sign Language who is passionate about helping children thrive academically and socially. Working closely with teachers and school staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring a young student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) can fully engage in their school experience.
Qualifications:
Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) Experience in educational, classroom, or student support settings preferred Previous work with elementary students, DHH students, or special education services is a plus Strong interpersonal and communication skills Patient, reliable, and eager to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team EIPA and RID certification are not required for this position
Key Responsibilities:
Facilitate communication for an elementary student using ASL throughout classroom instruction and daily routines Interpret or support the student during academic activities and interactions with teachers, staff, and peers Assist during transitions, assignments, and participation in school life Foster independence, positive social interactions, and encourage student engagement Work alongside educators and support staff to maintain an inclusive, accessible classroom Contribute to a welcoming, collaborative school environment
