Job Number 2386 Department Dual Immersion and English Learner Services Opening Date 09/09/2026 Closing Date 9/30/2026 5:00 PM Pacific Description Benefits Description This position requires full proficiency in the Spanish and English languages (read, write, and speak). Application materials must clearly demonstrate relevant skills and experience. Provides simultaneous and consecutive oral translation/interpretation between English and the designated foreign language during a variety of District and school meetings, legal proceedings, hearings, and home visits to assist District personnel, outside agency representatives, students and parents. Translates complex and general written materials between English and the designated foreign language.
CURRENT VACANCY
One full-time position (8 hrs/day, 12 mos/yr) with full benefits in the Dual Immersion & English Learner Services Department at the Administration Center. Maximum District contribution to the health insurance plan is $34,732.44 per year. All GUSD jobs are in person.

  • Provides simultaneous and consecutive bilingual oral translation/interpretation at school, community, home visits, and District meetings such as Individualized Education Program conferences, Student Study Teams, expulsion/suspension hearings.
  • Translates complex technical, legal, and medical documents including expulsion reports, IEP/Special Ed. assessments, psychologist's reports, and Board Policy, as well as general materials such as handbooks, manuals, forms, memos, correspondence. Prepares written translations of District meetings and conferences.
  • Reviews and proofreads as necessary written translations submitted by District personnel and edits for accuracy of meaning, grammar, syntax, and idiomatic and cultural appropriateness.
  • Operates translation headphone equipment (Silent Translator) to facilitate simultaneous interpretations at District meetings.
  • Utilizes a computerized bilingual word processing program for written translations and subsequent file retention. Employment Standards Minimum requirements :
  • One year of experience in composing, editing, and translating materials in English and the designated foreign language and providing consecutive or simultaneous oral translation or interpretations during group meetings and in one-to-one situations.
  • Computer skills, including adequate proficiency in using Microsoft Word and other standard software for bilingual translation.
Desirable :
Written and oral proficiency in additional languages.
License or Certificate :
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and the use of personal transportation. Also, ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates, and to maintain insurability. Any other combination of education, training and experience that could likely provide the desired skills, knowledge or abilities may be considered.
Working Conditions:
Environment:
Regularly works in an office environment; occasionally outside; will be required to use a personal vehicle in the course of duties; will be required to attend evening meetings and some travel; and may be required to work overtime. Work environment is generally clean and the noise level is usually moderate.
Physical Demands:
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer and other office equipment; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch to file; seeing to view a computer monitor and read a variety of materials; and hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the phone. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations, some outdoor activity and exposure to outside weather conditions.

Salary:
Salary amounts listed above indicate the first and last steps of the range. Probationary period : 130 days of paid service. After an offer of employment , a candidate must submit proof of freedom from tuberculosis. Also required after an offer is accepted, the candidate must complete a pre-employment physical examination and obtain fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (district-paid). The onboarding process includes legally mandated training(s) and reference checks. In addition, pursuant to Senate Bill 848 (SB848), the district is required to conduct reference checks that include inquiry into whether the applicant has ever been the subject of a credible complaint, investigation, or disciplinary action related to child abuse, sexual misconduct, or sexual harassment. Salary:
The beginning and ending salary steps are shown on each examination announcement. Permanent employees with satisfactory service receive salary increases upon completion of their probationary period and at one-year intervals thereafter, up to the maximum rate.
Holidays:
Regular classified employees are entitled to pay for authorized holidays, provided they were in a paid status during any portion of the working day immediately preceding or succeeding the holiday.
Sick Leave:
One day of sick leave earned per month, accumulation is unlimited.
Retirement:
All new employees who work half time or more must become members of the California Public Employees Retirement System and the Federal Social Security program. Contributions are withheld from salary. Employees may become eligible for retirement at age 50 with a minimum of five years service.

Examination Process:
A review of the applicants' experience and qualifications will be conducted. Based on that evaluation, a limited number of applicants whose qualifications best meet the current needs of the district will be invited to participate in the next step of the examination process. The examination process will consist of one or more related test parts covering any subject matter appropriate to the duties of the position. Qualified applicants will be advised of the test components and weights prior to the administration of the first test part.
Eligibility List:
Candidates successfully completing all phases of the application and examination procedure will be ranked on the appropriate eligibility list according to their total examination scores. This list is normally in effect for one year.
Classification:
When a vacant position is to be filled, the top three reachable ranks from the eligibility list are contacted for employment interviews. The supervisor of the vacant position will interview those candidates and may make a selection from any one of them. Depending on the vacancy, current employees in the same classification who have a transfer request on file, may also be interviewed. New employees must serve a six-month or one-year probationary period, depending on the classification involved.
Fingerprint Requirement:
California state law requires that all classified employees be fingerprinted. Candidates are responsible for paying the fees.
Certificate of Tuberculosis Examination:
New employees must furnish proof that within the last 60 days they have had a Mantoux tuberculin skin test.
Accommodation:
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, applicants with disabilities may request that reasonable accommodation be given related to the actual examination process. Requests must be made at the time of application.
Physical Examination:
Employees must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of the position without hazard to themselves or others. As a condition of employment, all prospective new hires must receive District approval relating to their fitness to work based on a physical examination. Tests must be given by a District-approved physician. Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Training (AB1432): As a state requirement, all prospective employees of the district are required to complete the Mandated Reporter Educators Training course, prior to their start date of employment. The training must also be completed annually thereafter.
Veterans Preference:
Five additional points of credit are added in entry-level examinations to the final passing score of qualified veterans showing 30 days or more service during time of war (10 points for disabled veterans) upon presentation of proof of veterans' status (Form DD-214). This evidence must be presented during the examination procedure. No credit will be given after this period.
