Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract A rewarding contract opportunity awaits a dedicated American Sign Language (ASL) professional to make a genuine difference in an inclusive elementary school environment. As an ASL Instructional Assistant, Paraprofessional, or Interpreter, you'll work closely with an elementary-aged student, helping bridge communication gaps and fostering an accessible and engaging learning experience—without the need for EIPA or RID certification. This dynamic, school-based role is ideal for those passionate about student support and inclusion.
Key Qualifications:
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is essential Prior experience in classrooms, educational interpreting, or supporting students (especially Deaf/Hard of Hearing students) is preferred Experience with elementary-aged learners or special education services is a plus Collaborative, reliable, and patient team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills EIPA and RID certifications are not required for this position
Core Responsibilities:
Provide consistent ASL communication and support for an elementary student during school hours Interpret or facilitate communication throughout classroom instruction, activities, and daily routines Support positive interactions between the student, teachers, staff, and peers Assist with classroom transitions, assignments, and encourage active student participation Work side-by-side with classroom teachers, special education professionals, and the broader school team Create a supportive, accessible, and inclusive classroom environment This position offers a structured schedule of 30+ hours per week within a collaborative, student-centered school setting. You'll play a valuable role in a student's academic journey and social growth while gaining hands-on experience in special education and Deaf/Hard of Hearing support.
