This contract opportunity in the area requires professionals who are passionate about making education accessible to all students through effective communication support.
Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Current certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (national or state) Prior experience interpreting in academic settings, particularly with school-aged children, is highly valued Strong understanding of confidentiality and ethical standards as set by interpreting organizations Excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability in diverse classroom situations Ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to best serve student needs
Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken language into ASL (and vice versa) for students, teachers, and staff in classroom settings and throughout the school day Support students in both individual and group instructional settings, ensuring equal access to academic material Facilitate communication during school events, meetings, and extracurricular activities as needed Maintain accuracy, integrity, and impartiality in all interpretations Consult with teachers and educational teams regarding progress and strategies to maximize student inclusion Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and ethical standards for educational interpreters This contract position allows you to bring your talent and compassion to a school-focused environment, making a profound difference in students' access to learning and social interaction.
