Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract A full-time opportunity is available for an ASL Language Facilitator or Sign Language Interpreter to support students in an urban, diverse school district. This contract position runs from August 27, 2026, through June 11, 2027, offering 32.5 hours per week in a focused 1:1 role. The ideal candidate will tutor students, ensure comprehension of academic material, support communication through American Sign Language (ASL), and help build students' ASL vocabulary.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one ASL support and tutoring tailored to student needs Assist students in understanding curriculum content through effective ASL communication Develop and expand students' ASL vocabulary to facilitate academic success Collaborate closely with teachers and the Director of the Deaf program to optimize student placement and support strategies
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
Fluency in American Sign Language is required Experience working within a school setting is highly preferred Certification through RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) and/or a high EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score is preferred but not mandatory Willingness to participate in a virtual interview with the Director and Teacher of the Deaf to determine student placement Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations in an urban environment
