Part-time American Sign Language Interpreter (ASL)

at Christiana Care Health Services in Newark, Delaware, United States Job Description The ChristianaCare Language Services department is currently recruiting for a Part-time American Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) to serve deaf and hard of hearing patients and staff, rendering information accurately and completely in compliance with all the CC Language Services and CC hospital policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will understand a variety of signing and spoken styles and registers and interpret with the highest degree of accuracy and completeness. They will demonstrate cultural competency and understand language as an expression of culture, recognize the underlying assumptions of each party about medicine, the encounter, the illness etc. and use this understanding to empower patient and provider to better understand each other. In addition, have the ability to work well under pressure and manage stressful situations.

Position Details:

Hours:

24 hours per week, with potential for additional hours (depending on the needs)

Shift:

Day shift, with paid on-call requirement every two weeks

Location:

Based in Newark, DE, with rotation to Wilmington, DE, and Elkton, MD; other ChristianaCare locations as needed by appointment

On-Call:

Nights and weekends required during on-call weeks; pay differential applies
