Job Description

Make a meaningful impact by supporting young learners as a full-time Sign Language Interpreter in an elementary school setting near Aurora, IL. In this rewarding, school-based contract position, you'll provide vital communication access for an elementary student in a mainstream classroom, working full-time hours (35 hours a week). You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring educational engagement and inclusion by facilitating clear, effective communication between the student, teachers, and peers throughout the school day.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Valid Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.0 or higher Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) for interpreting in schools, or eligibility with an application in progress Experience in elementary or K-12 school environments preferred Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive educational atmosphere Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one sign language interpretation for an elementary student during all instructional and school-related activities Accurately convey spoken content into ASL and interpret student responses for staff and classmates Support classroom participation, engagement, and learning objectives Collaborate with teachers, special education teams, and families to meet the student's communication needs Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
