Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a crucial role supporting the communication needs of a middle school student as a contract Sign Language Interpreter. This assignment offers the opportunity to make a real impact each day, with a consistent 7:35am start time and the chance to use your expertise to facilitate meaningful learning experiences. The student you'll be working with has some residual hearing, providing a unique and rewarding environment for you to apply and expand your skills.
Key Qualifications:
Valid IL Professional Educator License (PEL) EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) Score of 3.4 or higher Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, especially in educational or school settings Strong understanding of student-centered interpreting strategies, particularly when working with students who have residual hearing Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and student advocacy Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa for a middle school student within classroom and school settings Collaborate with teachers and staff to facilitate the student's access to instruction, discussions, and activities Support the student's academic and social engagement through effective communication tactics Monitor and adapt interpreting techniques to fit the student's individual needs and classroom dynamics Maintain accurate documentation as required by school policy
