This contract opportunity places you onsite, working 1:1 with a Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) student in a welcoming educational environment near Oswego, IL. As an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter, youll bridge communication and ensure the student has access to every aspect of their school experience.

Qualifications & Experience:

Valid Illinois State Sign Language Interpreter license is required. Experience with 1:1 student interpretation, especially in educational settings, highly preferred. Familiarity with DHH student needs and strategies for effective support. Knowledge of and adherence to confidentiality and professional ethics in school environments. Additional credentials such as PEL or Para Cert, if mandated by the school or director.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide direct, full-time ASL interpretation for a designated student, ensuring clear and accurate communication throughout the school day (7:45 am 2:45 pm). Adapt interpreting style and approach to meet the students individual learning and communication needs. Collaborate closely with teachers, support staff, and administration as part of the educational team. Serve as an accessible language model and advocate for DHH inclusion across classroom and extracurricular activities. Maintain detailed records as required and participate in student progress meetings as needed.
