Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract role as a Sign Language Interpreter, where you'll make a direct impact by supporting the educational experience of a Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) student. This full-time, school-based opportunity is perfect for professionals who are passionate about bridging communication, fostering inclusion, and providing individualized support. Working one-on-one with a DHH student, you'll facilitate access to both classroom instruction and peer interaction in a dynamic school setting. The assignment runs daily from 7:45 am to 2:45 pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch, allowing for a consistent routine within the vibrant school day.
Qualifications & Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong interpreting skills required Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in an educational setting is highly valued Ability to effectively support one student throughout the school day, accommodating various learning and communication needs Professional certification as a Sign Language Interpreter preferred Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and the professionalism to collaborate with teaching staff and administrators
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret verbal and auditory classroom communication into sign language for the DHH student Support the student's participation in academic activities, social interactions, and special events Adapt interpreting strategies to meet the student's individual needs and learning style Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions Collaborate with educators and support staff to provide comprehensive communication support This contract role offers the chance to create meaningful connections and help a student thrive in their academic environment.
