Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Exciting contract opportunities are available for skilled Sign Language Interpreters interested in supporting students in the Waukegan, IL area. Two on-site positions are open, each offering the chance to work in inclusive educational settings and make a difference daily.
Position Details:
Position 1: Located at the John Powers Center in Vernon Hills, working Monday through Friday from 9am to 3pm. Assignment runs from ASAP through May 28, 2027. Position 2: Located at Grayslake North High School in Grayslake, with a schedule of Monday through Friday from 8am to 12pm. Assignment runs from ASAP through May 20, 2027.
Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), with experience interpreting in school environments highly preferred.
One of the following credentials:
EIPA score of 3.5 or higher with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Approval; EIPA score of 3.0-3.4 with interim ISBE Approval; BEI, ISAS, CI/CT, or NIC credentials accepted with ISBE Approval. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to commit to a long-term assignment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide accurate and effective sign language interpretation for students and staff, ensuring access to classroom instruction and school activities. Foster an inclusive learning environment by supporting students' communication needs in a variety of educational settings. Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate cultural sensitivity at all times. Collaborate with educators, therapists, and support staff to support students' individual needs.
