Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Bring your expertise as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to a rewarding full-time contract position supporting a 4th-grade student who is a new American Sign Language (ASL) learner. This opportunity is located in the vibrant region near Lenexa, KS, with a start date as soon as possible and continuing through May 21, 2027, with possible extended school year (ESY) work. The role follows the school schedule, working Monday through Friday, from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Current licensure with the Kansas Commission on Deaf/Hard of Hearing is required Proficiency in ASL with the ability to clearly interpret both academic content and social interactions Understanding of educational settings, preferably with experience as a school-based interpreter Patience, flexibility, and a passion for working with elementary school children beginning their journey with ASL Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work closely with teaching staff, students, and families
Responsibilities:
Provide interpretive services for a 4th-grade student across classroom activities, small groups, and school events Support the learning process by facilitating clear communication between the student, peers, and staff Collaborate with teachers and educational teams to adapt interpreting strategies as the student's skills progress Maintain ethical standards and confidentiality in accordance with school and state guidelines Participate in meetings and trainings as needed during school hours If you are enthusiastic about supporting student success and ready to make a meaningful difference, take the next step in your interpreting career.
