Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Are you passionate about making a meaningful impact on students' lives by supporting access to education for hearing impaired learners? A dynamic school-based contract opportunity is available near New Orleans, LA, for an experienced Sign Language Interpreter proficient in both on-site and VOCO service delivery. This full-time, 37.5-hour-per-week role runs according to the school calendar, with an immediate start and extending through late May 2027.

Key Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and certification in Hearing Impaired for Louisiana; must also hold teaching credentials in the state of residence. Minimum of three years' experience working with hearing impaired students in mainstream educational settings. Proven skills in sign language interpretation and troubleshooting assistive hearing equipment, such as hearing aids and cochlear implants. Proficiency with computers, data management, and documentation, including IEPs and progress reporting. Strong collaboration and communication skills across diverse teams. Demonstrated professionalism, analytical problem-solving abilities, and adaptability to shifting priorities. Prior VOCO experience is required. Must complete district and agency credentialing, including background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities:

Deliver IEP-driven instructional and support services to hearing impaired students. Provide consultative support and in-service training to regular classroom staff. Maintain accurate records and ensure open lines of communication with staff, families, and coordinators. Assess and request needed materials and technological resources for students.
