Job Description

Category Schools - Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting student success as an ASL Interpreter. This full-time position (6 hours daily) begins as soon as possible and continues through the end of the school year. You'll attend high school classes alongside a 9th-grade student, providing real-time sign language interpretation of lessons and classroom interactions, ensuring accessibility and an inclusive learning experience.
Key Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with prior experience in educational settings Strong understanding of interpreting in classroom environments Ability to facilitate clear, accurate communication between staff, students, and peers Sensitivity, professionalism, and a student-focused attitude Flexibility to adapt interpretation style to various subjects and settings Certification as an interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or state credentials) preferred
Your Responsibilities:
Provide direct sign language interpretation during all scheduled classes Enable the student's participation in class discussions, activities, and assessments Coordinate with teachers and staff to clarify lesson details in advance when necessary Support the student's independence and self-advocacy skills Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in all interpreting situations Respond to dynamic classroom needs as they arise throughout the school day Imagine making a difference every day as you foster an accessible and engaging educational environment.
