Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract A school in Interlochen, MI, is seeking a full-time Sign Language Interpreter to support a student in both the current school year (CSY) and the next school year (NSY). This contract position involves working 37.5 hours per week to provide vital communication assistance for a first-grade boy with significant language deprivation.
Key Qualifications:
Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or Teacher in American Sign Language Preferred 4.0 EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score; candidates with lower scores may be considered on a temporary basis with supervision for certification approval Experience working with children who have language delays or deprivation is highly desired Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with educational teams
Role Responsibilities:
Deliver high-quality interpreting services to support the student's language development and access to education Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and family members to create and maintain effective communication strategies Adapt interpreting techniques to the individual needs of the student Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times Participate in ongoing training and development related to ASL and language deprivation
