Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. An opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their educators in a school setting. This contract role is based in Medford, OR, and focuses on providing essential interpreting services to facilitate inclusive education.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa to support classroom instruction and school activities. Collaborate closely with students, teachers, and staff to ensure effective communication in various academic and social settings. Participate in meetings and events requiring sign language interpretation. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards related to interpreting services. Stay current with best practices and developments in sign language interpretation within educational environments.
Qualifications and Experience:
Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably within educational settings. Certification in sign language interpretation or equivalent credentials. Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and understanding of deaf culture. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations. Flexibility and professionalism in fulfilling contract requirements.
