Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. A full-time Sign Language Interpreter position is available in Columbia, SC for the 2026-2027 school year. This role offers the opportunity to provide essential communication support within a school environment, supporting students and staff to ensure accessible learning experiences. The position runs from August 6, 2026, to May 26, 2027, with a 37.5-hour workweek.
Key Responsibilities:
Facilitate effective communication between hearing-impaired students and their teachers, peers, and school staff Translate spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa Collaborate with educators and support staff to tailor communication strategies to individual student needs Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions Participate in relevant meetings and training to stay current with best practices
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter A minimum score of 3.5 on the EIPA written examination Experience working in educational settings preferred Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work effectively both onsite and, if necessary, virtually closer to the school year
